Carol Cowen, LCSW
Carol Cowen has been practicing individual, group and family therapy for over 35 years. Her main objective is to create trusting, respectful relationships with her clients, in order to help them feel good about themselves and their lives. She works from a strength based perspective, continually reinforcing skills, habits and behaviors which are working for them. She teaches healthy adaptive coping strategies and communication skills. Carol has an extensive background working with ADHD, Anxiety, Adoption/ Attachment, Depression, Developmental Delays, and Parenting through Life's Transitions. Carol assists clients in helping to identify their goals and needs. She works collaboratively with her clients to recognize where they are facing obstacles, which keep them from getting what they want.
After receiving a MSW from Loyola University of Chicago, Carol has pursued her career in family service agencies, mental health clinics and private practice settings. Primarily; however, Carol has worked within the public school system as a school social worker. She gained extensive pediatric experience with all age levels, from preschool through High school and a multitude of special education and general education populations. Carol uses an eclectic but individualized approach, using components of play therapy, CBT, family systems and self-psychology. Her style is empathic yet direct. She is a strong advocate for clients and a huge proponent of collaboration with In2great staff. She believes in a well-coordinated comprehensive treatment plan for families. Carol also has expertise in IEP and 504 programming. She helps clients to be heard by schools. Carol recognizes that part of her role is to help families develop and use support systems in their worlds.
