Dr. Risa Umeno, OTD, OTR/L
Dr. Risa Umeno is a licensed occupational therapist who received her doctorate degree in occupational therapy at Huntington University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Health with a concentration in Behavioral Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Risa completed her Residency project at Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) in Rolling Meadows where she implemented a reference binder regarding sensory processing disorder and how to stimulate or calm clients who have difficulty regulating their bodies. She has experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Developmental Delay (DD). Risa currently works in preschool, elementary, and middle schools in the South suburbs. She also evaluates children who are transitioning from early intervention (EI) and helps improve her students' fine motor, visual-motor, and sensory processing skills.
Risa believes in making everything fun while working on these skills. She believes that communication is essential in developing an understanding for what activities are meaningful for the child and family members. Risa enjoys meeting new families and helping them modify and accommodate activities to ensure everyone can participate in purposeful and fulfilling experiences.
In her free time, Risa enjoys playing ultimate frisbee for a nationally-ranked competitive Chicago club team, exercising, traveling, eating delicious meals with friends, and visiting her family in Japan. She currently lives in Chicago. Risa is excited to join the In2Great Pediatric Therapy team!
