Rachel Johnson, MOT OTR/L
I've always known that in some form or another I've wanted to work with kids. After graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Biokinetics at Bethel University, I worked as a paraprofessional with middle schoolers with ASD before starting my graduate program at the University of Minnesota. I was able to have two great fieldwork experiences, both with pediatric experiences, focusing on social skills and executive functioning. I was able to be apart of a research team during my graduate experience with the goal of creating a performance based assessment for executive functioning for kids ages 8-18. The most important experience I've had that has shaped me to become an empathetic OT is working as a PCA for a young boy for almost 5 years. I had the privilege to live with his family, take him to therapy sessions, and truly understand home and family life outside of therapy.
I grew up in Wisconsin, moved to Minnesota for 7 years for school, and moved to Illinois to start my position at In2great! In my free time I enjoy baking cookies and pies, taking care of plants and visiting conservatories/gardens, traveling to new places, and playing card/board games with friends and family.
